The continuous fibres reducing the risk of cracking. Its impact resistance is more than twice that of FRP. | CFRT is ideally suited for applications such as lorry bodies, motorhome roofs and marine applications, where extremely high levels of vibration and impact resistance are required. |
| Weight Reduction | FRP face sheets require thicker layers to achieve required strength, resulting in higher panel weight. | CFRT provides higher strength-to-weight performance and can reduce panel weight by 30%-35% under similar stiffness requirements. | Lightweight panels can improve a vehicle’s load-carrying capacity and fuel efficiency, whilst reducing transport costs |
| Bending Strength & Stiffness | FRP offers good rigidity but may develop microcracks under repeated bending stress. | Continuous fiber structure provides higher tensile modulus (10-13GPa) and better bending stability. | CFRT honeycomb panels maintain better flatness for large-size walls, floors, and transportation structures. |
| Temperature Resistance | Standard polyester FRP typically works from -30℃ to 75℃. | PP-based CFRT performs from -50℃ to 120℃ with excellent thermal cycling stability. | CFRT is suitable for cold regions, outdoor vehicles, and extreme temperature environments. |
| Waterproofing | If the gel coat is damaged, moisture may penetrate through fiberglass layers and affect the honeycomb core. | CFRT has a dense thermoplastic structure with water absorption below 0.01%, reducing moisture penetration risks. | Combined with PU edge sealing, CFRT provides long-term protection for refrigerated trucks and marine panels. |
| UV & Weather Resistance | Standard FRP may show color fading or surface aging after long outdoor exposure. Vinyl FRP can provide around 10 years of durability. | CFRT integrates UV stabilizers and protective films, providing long-term outdoor weather resistance. | Reduces maintenance frequency for outdoor walls, vehicle panels, and marine structures. |
| Fatigue Resistance | Continuous vibration may create hidden cracks and weaken the bonding interface. | Continuous glass fibres can effectively disperse vibrational stress and extend the service life. | CFRT is preferred for truck bodies, RVs, and transportation equipment under repeated vibration conditions. |
